Trauma-informed Care
Transformational Care
Trauma-informed care recognizes and responds to the signs, symptoms, and effects of trauma to provide the best care and support to the youth in our care. The Children's Attention Home employs the CARE model developed by Cornell University.
The CARE model focuses on six main principles to create a program and services that are:
- Developmentally focused
- Family involved
- Relationship based
- Competency centered
- Trauma informed
- Ecologically oriented
Trauma-informed care emphasizes safety, freedom of choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment and encourages consistent communication and interaction between caregivers and residents. This approach improves residents' chances of personal and programmatic success and sustained independence after their time living at the Home.
