Teens Learn about Local Industries

July 12, 2019
During the summer months, it's always a challenge to keep up to 42 children and teenagers occupied. On one hand you want to keep them entertained; and on the other, you want to make sure they're doing something constructive. Well, that is exactly what has been done at the Children's Attention Home this summer. Combine job possibilities, field trips, and food, and you get an opportunity that no teen would want to pass up: Lunch & Learns!

Each week throughout the summer, CAH Social Worker, Cathy Bolduc, takes a small group of teenagers to different companies in and around the Rock Hill area. During these visits, the children get the opportunity to see different fields of work and industries that are not necessarily the most commonly talked about. The hosting company provides a mean for the attending youth. Following the meal, they lead the teens on a tour of their facilities while talking about the many different employment opportunities their company provides.

Most recently, a trip to Duke Energy was met with great excitement and curiosity (see photo). Other companies that have been visited so far include:

  • McClancy Seasonings

  • International Paper

  • CN2 News

  • with Atrium Health coming up this week!

As the Home continues to out put an emphasis on independent living and life skills, partnerships like these are crucial and much appreciated.
