Kaleb's Next Chapter

Having a home base was a reality Kaleb longed to find. For years, frequent moves in foster care interrupted his path, and Kaleb found himself struggling to find his footing. When life felt overwhelming, Kaleb retreated to his familiar comforts—video games, the quiet of his room, and wrestling.

Wrestling was more than a sport to Kaleb—it was his passion. He found a sense of belonging on the mat and with his team. Staying in his current school mattered to Kaleb, not just for wrestling, but for the relationships he had built there.

However, without a placement nearby, he faced another move, another school, and another reset. With each option, Kaleb saw his foundation began to crumble once again.

After discussion with his caseworker, Kaleb was placed at the Home. Quickly, our team went to work, coordinating transportation and schedules to ensure Kaleb could stay engaged in his school and connected to the wrestling team he loved. At the Home, Kaleb continued to grow and began taking steps toward independence. With support from staff like Ms. Kim, Ms. Diamond, and Ms. Catina, he applied to college, entered driving school, went to prom, and maintained a job.

Motivation from his growing village kept him on his path. This past year, he took on the challenges of senior year head-on, balancing dual enrollment classes, college applications, and his sport. Kaleb graduated high school this May, an accomplishment he’s incredibly proud of.

“I didn’t think I was going to finish what I started,” he shared. “Now I’m really proud of myself.”

He states that his biggest motivator through every step continues to be setting an example for his younger sister.

“If I can make it, so can she.”

This fall, Kaleb is taking an exciting next step and continuing his academic journey at Lander University, where he plans to study education. Like many young people pursuing higher education, he faced a financial gap. However, thanks to the support of this caring community, his tuition for the upcoming semester is covered.

As Kaleb continues building a future he’s worked hard to reach, the Home will remain a key resource to him. At his request, Kaleb has a space to return to during school breaks, reflecting the stability he’s found during his time at the Home.

Looking ahead, his goals are to help others, earn his license, adjust to college life, and find a campus job. Success to him means not worrying about the small things while finding the freedom to build a life of his own.

Now, thanks to his village, Kaleb is stepping into what’s next with confidence.
