Children's Attention Home adds cottage updates through Lutz Foundation grant

June 18, 2026

Rock Hill, S.C. – In January, the Herbert and Anna Lutz Foundation awarded Children’s Attention Home a $25,000 grant to upgrade and refresh spaces throughout Morris Cottage. These updates are now complete, creating brighter, more welcoming environments where youth can feel grounded, safe, and supported.

Thoughtfully designed spaces play an important role in helping youth feel secure, stable, and ready to focus on healing. Many children arrive at the Home after experiencing food insecurity, unstable housing, and inconsistent care. Several of the recent improvements—including fresh paint, enhanced lighting, and general repairs throughout the living, dining, kitchen, and hallway areas—were guided by feedback from youth and the teammates who support them each day.

By enhancing the spaces used most often, the Home is better equipped to foster healthy routines, reduce stress, and support young people as they build confidence and work toward greater independence.

“Our first priority is always the children,” said Tara Burgess, Executive Director of Children’s Attention Home. “Because of partners like The Lutz Foundation, we can maintain warm, dependable spaces where youth feel secure, supported, and encouraged as they focus on healing and growth.”

The Lutz Foundation has been a long-standing partner in this work, previously supporting renovations in cottage bathrooms, the dining hall, and outdoor areas. Their continued investment helps ensure youth have functional, welcoming spaces that reflect the dignity and care they deserve.

“This work would not be possible without groups like The Lutz Foundation,” Burgess added. “Their partnership has made a meaningful difference for our organization and the youth in our care, and we are grateful for their ongoing support.”
