A decade of faithful partnership: St. Vincent de Paul

May 26, 2026

For more than a decade, the dedicated volunteers of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) of York County have delivered groceries and essential items to the Children’s Attention Home.

SVdP members provide weekly support to ensure every child on campus has access to nutritious, filling meals. Offering person-to-person service rooted in compassion and dignity, their work reflects a simple but powerful mission: a network of friends building a more just world through personal relationships and service to those in need.

“Many years ago, a very faithful member of the Saint Anne Conference of SVdP, Doris Garand, expressed the desire to support the Children’s Attention Home,” shared SVdP member Kim Herbott. “At that time, the Home housed children of all ages, and our ministry began providing fresh fruits and items to the children on a twicemonthly basis.”

What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into more than ten years of steady support.

“Throughout the years, as needs and circumstances change at the Home, SVdP continues to support the children with a weekly delivery of items requested by the chef, Earl Buckson, who has endeared himself to our ministry of volunteers,” Herbott added. “We genuinely enjoy our interactions with the staff and appreciate the opportunity to support the Children’s Attention Home for the past many years.”

May holds special significance for Catholics and Vincentians as a month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Children’s Attention Home is honored to recognize SVdP and give thanks for their ongoing commitment to the youth we serve.
