Homeless Teen Program, now Crossroads

What is a name? It is how we identify ourselves - our own name, daughter, son, father, grandmother, nicknames, and the list goes on. We don't just identify by our own names, but also in the groups and activities we are part of - our church, family, school, sports team, etc.

Our kids have other names they identify with - foster kid, throwaway, homeless.

Last February, the Home launched the first program in York County serving unaccompanied youth. After several months, we recognized the very name of the program focused on the pain of their past instead of the opportunity of their future. We are serving children and youth at a crossroads in their life, one of the many they will face, and our goal is to equip and empower them to face their crossroads successfully.

So going forward, our teens who come to us as homeless can trade that name for a new one, one that defines the brave choice they are making to be different and do different than what others have expected of them. They will learn to make the little decisions every day that teach them how to make the big decisions that change their life for the better.
