Cozier Cottage at Children's Attention Home thanks to Lutz Foundation and community partners

June 6, 2019

Rock Hill, S.C. – The Children’s Attention Home recently completed a makeover for the first of their three cottages, thanks to a generous grant of $30,000 from The Herbert and Anna Lutz Foundation. A public ribbon cutting and open house was hosted on May 21 to celebrate and show the updated cottage to the community.

The cottage renovations were completed to create a more “home-like” space for the foster children and homeless youth in the care of the Home. Through the support of the Lutz Foundation and other community partners, including Domtar and Hood Paint, new faux wood flooring was installed, all areas including bedrooms and living areas were painted, bed frames were replaced, and the bathrooms were updated and repaired.

“We are so pleased with the renovations to Freeman-Norris cottage and the children living there are so excited,” said Executive Director, Emily Parrish. “They deserve a beautiful and comfortable place to call Home. We are so grateful to our community sponsors for making this possible.”

The Home is raising support to renovate the two additional cottages at this time. Anyone interested in assisting with future projects can contact Katy Motsinger (803-372-6841, kmotsinger@attentionhome.org).

Through the years, the Home has served many children removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. The trauma these children experience is often paralleled in the physical living conditions from which they were removed. For many children, the Children’s Attention Home is the first place where they feel safe, have a bed, or have a space to call their own. Youth often describe their first interactions with staff and other residents as welcoming, and the update of cottage spaces will allow the Home the physical environment to match the warmth of the people who care for them.
