Children's Attention Home awarded grant from Lutz Foundation

February 11, 2019
Rock Hill, S.C. - A makeover is in store for the children's cottages at the Children's Attention Home, thanks to a generous grant of $30,000 from The Herbert and Anna Lutz Foundation.

Cottage renovations are soon to be underway with the goal of creating a more “home-like” space for the foster children and homeless youth in the care of the Children's Attention Home. The grant will assist with cosmetic updates such as floor replacements and painting, bathroom updates, and repairs.

“The Lutz Foundation continues to be a blessing to our children,” said Executive Director Emily Parrish. “First impressions are everything. We want the first thing a child experiences at the Children's Attention Home to be a warm welcome, and that includes the cottage where they will be living. We want our Home to feel like home.”

Through the years, the Home has served many children from Chester that have been removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. The trauma these children experience often parallels the physical living conditions from which they were removed. For many children, the Children's Attention Home is the first place where they feel safe, have a bed, or have a space to call their own. Youth often describe their first interactions with staff and other residents as welcoming, and the update of cottage spaces will allow the Home the physical environment to match the warmth of the people who care for them.
