On Tuesday, March 26, the Children's Attention Home and nine other non-profit organizations took to the stage, pitching to a packed audience to raise awareness and funds for their missions.
It was this year's SEED20 OnStage, the annual premier event of Social Venture Partners (SVP) Charlotte. Katy Motsinger, representing the Home, gave her three-minute pitch about the Home's new Day Services Program serving foster youth awaiting long-term placement. After an audience vote during the event and a community vote hosted a week prior, the Children's Attention Home was named the Wells Fargo People's Choice Grand Prize and Community Vote Award winner, totaling $21,000 in funding.
"It was a bit surreal," shared Motsinger, Director of Development & Marketing at the Home. "We had all worked together for months leading up to this event, perfecting our pitches with feedback from coaches, the other organizations, and SVP volunteers. Everyone did an incredible job, and I'm thrilled those in the audience saw the needs of our kids and connected with our story."

The SEED20 program, put on by Social Venture Partners (SVP) Charlotte, provides ten nonprofits the opportunity to be paired with mentor coaches to perfect their organization's message, build connections with socially conscious leaders across the Charlotte area, and the chance to raise awareness and funds for their organizations. The Home submitted the Day Services Program to be considered back in November, and was selected after a multi-layered selection process. The Home participated in the SEED20 program in 2017 at the launch of the Crossroads program for youth experiencing homelessness.
SVP is a venture-philanthropy nonprofit that supports other nonprofits with money, time, expertise and social capital. SVP Charlotte members — there are currently more than 125 individuals and corporate partners — typically donate at least $5,000. When choosing which organizations to support, SVP focuses on groups who are breaking down obstacles to upward mobility and promoting equality. The local SVP chapter is one of more than 40 global member organizations. The first group was founded in Seattle in 1997.
